England Watch: Women - May 16

The 2022 Betfred Women's Super League got underway this week, with plenty of England's World Cup hopefuls on show...

Sunday - St Helens 44-0 Wigan Warriors

St Helens' big contringent of England stars was headlined by the debut of new signing Shona Hoyle. The former Castleford and Huddersfield prop got her chance off the bench and bagged a late second-half try for her new side.

Amy Hardcastle was also on the scoresheet, scoring twice in the first half. Leah Burke was first to go over, though, setting the tone with a try on three minutes, swiftly followed by a Chantelle Crowl score.

Paige Travis trundled over for a first half try for Saints, while Zoe Harris - who ended the day with six goals from eight attempts - bagged the final try of the game in the dying minutes.

There were also starts for England squad members Rachael Woosey, Jodie Cunningham, Tara Jones and Naomi Williams, with Emily Rudge featuring off the bench, Katie Mottershead, Pip Birchall.

Georgia Wilson and Becky Greenfield were Wigan's England stars on show but they couldn't affect the outcome on a tough afternoon against strong opposition. Vicky Molyneux and Rachel Thompson continue their respective recoveries from injury.

Sunday - Huddersfield Giants 6-50 York City Knights

Hollie Dodd scored twice for York as they got their season started in style, her double coming straight after half time. She was joined on the scoresheet by Olivia Wood who went over in the first half and Grace Field who bagged a try on the hour mark.

Tara Stanley was one of the stars of the show on Sunday and contributed six goals from seven attempts in a ruthless display from the Knights.

For Huddersfield, they were once again captained by Bethan Oates from hooker but she couldn't make the difference as York recorded a comfortable win.
